DMW Caps 2025 with Expanded OFW Protections
The Department of Migrant Workers reported significant achievements in 2025: 2.57 million OFWs deployed (up from 2.2M in 2024), 10 new bilateral labor agreements signed (total now 72), and ₱2.18 billion distributed through the Aksyon Fund to over 160,000 OFWs. The Oman MOU on Labor Cooperation is expected to be signed in January 2026.
Digital OFW Pass Replaces Traditional OEC
The DMW's digitalization efforts processed 514,966 e-Travel and OFW Pass transactions in 2025, reducing reliance on the decades-old Overseas Employment Certificate. Airlines are expected to fully recognize digital travel documents by 2026, streamlining the departure process for migrant workers.
35 OFWs Repatriated from Cambodia Scam Hubs
Just hours before 2026, 35 OFWs from Cambodia were safely repatriated by DMW as part of ongoing inter-agency efforts to assist Filipino victims of illegal recruitment, human trafficking, and scam hub operations. Around 3,000 OFWs currently face cases abroad, with 24 on death row.
New Minimum Salary for Domestic Workers: $500/month
DMW rolled out new safeguards for domestic workers, increasing the minimum monthly salary from USD 400 to USD 500. This applies to new deployments in key destination countries including Saudi Arabia, UAE, Kuwait, and Hong Kong.
